News & EventsFrom Your Door to Heaven's Door - 2020 Vision Plan
Many churches reported the many joys of Easter and St. Elizabeth’s can certainly add its own joys to this overflowing presence of God. During Lent we embarked on many programs geared towards the launching of our 2020 vision plan.
” From Your Door to Heaven’s Door” seeks to become a fully comprehensive interactive program with a set goal of increasing our present Sunday average from 100 to 150 by the year 2020 (150x2020). The tools include home visits; welcoming package, applicable church integration methods, stewardship /membership tracking using the Realm App., usher training, and hospitality ministry improvement along with an improved outreach ministry.
During Lent, Fr Andy visited numerous parish families and held family services and prayer meetings.
The stewardship committee launched its Realm app. And the new parish welcome brochure was rolled out. Holy Week provided the best opportunity to test these programs and we were overwhelmed by the record number of attendance.
On Easter Sunday with nearly 250 persons present we actually needed to create two communion stations! The children’s choir were amazing along with accompaniment by students from Elizabeth High School Jazz band made our celebrations joyous and filled with new hope.
This week we launched our urban garden initiative in collaboration with the Alumni of Kean University who donated an indoor Tower garden. Using this concept we can create opportunities not only for education and the provision of healthy food source for our urban communities but we are already in discussions with a partner church in Haiti that will assist in providing healthy foods for impoverished communities.
My friends, for Holy Week we explored how Jesus used a humble borrowed donkey to proclaim his kingship because in the Hands of God all things are not just possible but valuable. A donkey became a God carrier, simple bread became life giving food, two pieces of wood and three borrowed nails became symbols of victory, and ordinary people became God agents. WE proclaim this message of God’s love through all that God is making available to us within our urban communities. St. Elizabeth’s is called to join with others who are proclaiming the presence that seeks to transforms lives.
This week we launch our Annual Flea market entrepreneurship program. Our vendors met for prayer and planning with new ideas towards building their business and we look forward to a year of success.
Join us at St. Elizabeth’s as we move “From your Door to Heaven’s door”.
